The motherboard is one of the most essential parts of a computer. The parts of a motherboard are the DRAM slots, power connector, CPU heat sinks and mounting points for fans, CPU socket, connectors, AGP slot, backup battery, PCI slots, Southbridge, Northbridge with heat sink, ROM, hard drive slots. DRAM slots is what allows computer memory depending on what kind of motherboard you have it determines the type of RAM is used with the computer. A power connector is a power supply that gives power to the system processor, memory, and all the slotted add-on boards. CPU (Central Processing Unit) heat sinks and mounting points for fans keeps the computer from being too hot but it doesn't make it completely cold so if a computer has been on for a long time the air around it is probably hot. The CPU (Central Processing Unit) socket is the connector on the motherboard that houses the CPU and it forms the electrical interface and contact with CPU. Also the primary components of the CPU are the ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) it performs mathematical, logical, and decision operations and the CU (Control Unit) that directs all of the processors operations. Connectors connect all the peripherals (plug-ins). The AGP slot stands for ( Accelerated Graphics Port) it is specifically designed for video graphics cards. The back-up battery is a back up battery just in case the supply of power fails. The PCI slots is used to install different types of cards such a VGA (video graphic adaptor) card, network card etc. The Southbridge controls all the functions of the computers. A Northbridge with heat sink is an integrated circuit that is responsible for the communications between he CPU interface, PCI, and the memory. The ROM (Read-only memory) is a storage media used in computers and other electronic devices. Since data in ROM can't be modified easily so it is mainly used for firmware (software closely tied to specific hardware). Finally we have the last part of the motherboard and it is hard drive slots it is a primary storage device in the computer and if you didn't have it would be called a dumb terminal.
The motherboard is in the desktop. A desktop is a plastic box that contains the main components of a computer. It houses a system fan, power supply, motherboard, processors (CPU), RAM moduels, an optical drive, a hard drive, and a heat sink. A system fan is fan to keep the desktop cool. If there wasn't one, the desktop would heat up! A power supply is a supply of power for the internal components of a computer. It gathers the power from the wall outlet for the computer to work. A motherboard is a sheet of plastic that holds all the circuitry to connect the various components of a computer. Processors or a CPU, is the brain of the computer. If your processor is powerful, your computer will run fast. RAM moduels are like when you view a picture, run a program, and etc. all the information is loaded from your hard drive into your RAM moduels. An optical drive is a disk drive that uses a laser or other ways to read and write data. A hard drive is a self-contained storage device. Finally, a heat sink is in the desktop to keep the processors cool.
